Our Key Person Approach

We understand that children need adults to depend upon for reassurance and comfort and this in turn allows them to become independent themselves. At Marlborough Day Nursery we are very proud of our key person approach. We assign a key person to each child who joins our family so they always have a trusted, familiar person available to them. It’s a special role that involves responsibility for working with a small number of children giving them reassurance to feel safe and cared for. The key person also builds close bonds with parents as we recognise that parents are their children’s most important educators and work with us to encourage continued learning at home.

Our key persons help our babies and children become familiar with their settings, and to feel confident and safe within them. They build a genuine bond with their children and offer a settled, close relationship. We understand that when children feel happy, safe and secure in this way, they are confident to explore and try out new things.

Our key persons seek to build positive relationships and regularly talk to parents ensuring each child is being cared for appropriately in a home from home environment, making sure to marry routines at home and in nursery. They also keep careful records of each child's development and progress and share these with their children and parents as part of every child’s individual learning and development progression.

Our values of trust, honesty, and openness are important to the key person role and for our parents as they know they are values they can trust.
